FAQ

What is CIDR notation?
CIDR (Classless Inter-Domain Routing) writes an address followed by a slash and the number of network bits, e.g. 192.168.1.0/24. The number after the slash determines how many addresses are in the block.
What is the difference between total hosts and usable hosts?
Total hosts is every address in the block. The first (network) and last (broadcast) addresses are reserved, so the usable host range is total minus two (254 usable in a /24).
Does this tool support IPv6?
No. This tool calculates IPv4 networks. Enter an IPv4 CIDR block.
What is the subnet mask for?
The mask separates the network part of the address from the host part. It is the dotted-decimal form of the CIDR prefix length.
