FAQ

How is tithi calculated?
Tithi is based on the angular distance between the sun and moon. This tool derives it from the moon phase, which is accurate to within a few hours of the actual tithi boundary.
What is Shukla vs Krishna?
Shukla (bright) paksha is the waxing phase from new moon to full moon. Krishna (dark) paksha is the waning phase from full moon back to new moon.
What determines auspiciousness?
We use simplified traditional rules: tithis 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 11, 13 in Shukla and 8, 12, 13 in Krishna are generally auspicious. Tithis 4, 9, 14, 15 are inauspicious.
