FAQ
What does the Verhoeff checksum check?
It verifies the 12-digit number is mathematically consistent with the Verhoeff algorithm, which catches common typos like swapped digits. A passing checksum means the number is well-formed. It does not guarantee the number belongs to a real person.
Is my Aadhaar number sent to a server?
No. Validation runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Why is the number masked by default?
For privacy. The first 8 digits are hidden until you click the eye icon, so the full number is not left on screen while you use other apps.
Does a valid result mean the Aadhaar is issued by UIDAI?
No. This tool only checks the format and checksum. Only UIDAI can confirm whether a number is actually issued.
