FAQ

What is WHR (waist-to-hip ratio)?
WHR is your waist circumference divided by your hip circumference. It estimates where you store body fat — abdominal (apple-shaped) fat carries higher health risk than hip and thigh (pear-shaped) fat.
What are the WHO risk cutoffs?
For women: below 0.80 is low risk, 0.80 to 0.85 moderate, above 0.85 high. For men: below 0.90 low, 0.90 to 0.95 moderate, above 0.95 high.
Does the unit of measurement matter?
No. Since it is a ratio of two measurements in the same unit, you get the same result with centimeters or inches. Just use the same unit for both.
How is WHR different from BMI?
BMI looks at weight relative to height but not fat distribution. WHR specifically measures abdominal fat, which is a stronger predictor of cardiovascular risk. They complement each other.
